Literature Text

I went to hold your hand, and your immediate reaction was to flinch away.
"Your hands are cold."
"I'm sorry."
"They're always cold."

But you held onto it anyway. Uncomfortable. Pulse rhythmically drumming against my calloused, papery skin, and your pearly fingers stricken by rigor mortis.

Despite holding ourselves together for so long, neither of us melted into the other's skin, no closer than before.

You told me "we weren't any more apart of each other as we had hoped." That I'm too cold and awkward to become apart of, but my lack of perfection was what made me the dark to your light; the yang to your yin; the mockingbird that had no real use but to sing.

Regardless, when you pulled away I could've sworn my heart didn't reside in my own chest anymore.
You love me despite our awkward stares & mismatched hearts.

Very sad and touching poem. It actually brought up past memories.

Yet again, I like how you structure your poetry too, you definitely do not restrict yourself and that makes the emotion much easier to express
